General FAQ

Where is your office located?

I rent office space at 5162 E. Stop 11 Road, Suite 1, Indianapolis, IN 46237. The office is conveniently located on the south side of Indianapolis near exits for both I-65 and I-465. It is in the Southport Professional Center near the intersection of Stop 11 and Emerson Avenue and across from St. Francis Hospital. There is ample free parking.

Why do you not take insurance?

I have decided not to work directly with insurance companies for a number of reasons. Some of those reasons include the following:

  • Evaluations completed with insurance means your/your loved one’s evaluation isn’t actually confidential because it is reviewed by insurers for service utilization and medical necessity.

  • With insurance, I would typically have to complete a pre-authorization for testing to prove you are “sick enough” to need services. I work from a place of strengths, not deficits. Proving an individual is “sick enough” does not take into account individual’s natural curiosity for gaining more knowledge, wisdom, and insight about themselves/their children and identifying next steps in their healing and wellness journey.

  • Mental health impressions/diagnoses may stay in your/your loved one’s medical history for an indefinite amount of time when you use insurance. When using insurance, including submitting a superbill for out of network reimbursement, your insurance company could have access to your entire record if they request it. This means there is additional risk to your confidentiality and ability to maintain privacy around your medical records.

  • If you have a high deductible insurance plan, you will be paying for services out of pocket even through an in-network provider.

  • For some people, the option to pay privately (e.g. without filing through insurance) reduces the chances of surprise bills in the mail weeks after getting services because insurance decided to decline reimbursement.

  • It makes it easier for you to find an evaluator with whom you connect, instead of just going with an evaluator who is in network and hoping they’ll be a good fit.

  • Ultimately, however, only you/your loved ones can decide whether private pay is the right choice for you/your family, especially if you have insurance that covers another provider.

How soon are evaluation appointments scheduled?

In addition to completion of private/self-pay evaluations, I also complete evaluations as a subcontractor for agencies with contracts with the Department of Child Services (DCS). This means that I typically have a waitlist ranging from three to five months. The length of my waitlist varies based on the ebb and flow of referrals. Last minute cancellations sometimes allow me to schedule individuals sooner/more quickly.

I provide individuals with my current waitlist at the time of our brief telephonic call to discuss the evaluation process. You/your loved one can also ask to be placed on a cancellation list in the event that a testing slot opens up prior to your scheduled appointment.

I understand that during times when my waitlist is longer, you/your loved one may desire contact information for other providers to see if you may be able to schedule with them sooner. I am happy to provide referrals so you/your loved one can decide which provider you feel most comfortable working with.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payments in the form of cash, check, or money order are accepted. I do not have a credit card processor, and as such, I cannot take payment via credit card, HSA cards, or Care Credit. Some individuals also choose to make payments via Zelle.

What if I need to cancel my/my loved one’s appointment?

I understand that illness and unforeseen events or emergencies are inevitable. If you need to cancel your appointment, please provide notice 24 hours in advance of your/your loved one’s scheduled appointment. Cancellations received with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as No Showing scheduled appointments, may incur a cancellation fee, which is separate from the total payment to complete the evaluation. Each individual’s circumstance/situation will be discussed to explore next steps.

Do you hold therapy space with folx?

I do not provide therapy services. Rather, my practice solely focuses on psychological assessment services. If you are also seeking individual or family therapy services, or your/your loved one’s evaluation report includes recommendations to participate in such services, I am happy to provide a list of providers and/or agencies who may be a good fit for you/your loved one.

Can you prescribe medication?

No, I cannot/do not prescribe medication.
