Testing Day FAQ

Should I still come to my evaluation appointment if I am not feeling well?

The short answer is probably not. The longer answer is if you are not feeling well, were sick the night before, or have been recovering from an illness, please make me aware of this as you may be required to reschedule. It is important to be well rested and in good health in order to have the opportunity to put forth full effort on testing.

On the day of testing, we will be engaging in a series of tasks, some of which measure the upper limits of your abilities. If you feel that you have an illness (e.g. flu, infection, etc.) please contact me to reschedule. These illnesses may impact your testing performance and subsequent diagnostic impressions. Additionally, we do not want to put other individuals at risk.

What if another household member who I have been exposed to is not feeling well?

If someone in your household is not feeling well in the days or week prior to your scheduled appointment, please make me aware of this as you may be required to reschedule to ensure everyone’s health and safety. If you have been exposed to Covid-19 or have been ordered to isolate or quarantine for any reason, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment until after your isolation or quarantine period has been completed.

Should I bring anything to my appointment?

If you wear glasses or hearing aids, please make sure to bring them with you.

If you take medication, please bring a medication list with you.

If you have had previous testing, please bring any available records with you to the evaluation.

You should bring some drinks and food to have during the evaluation. If needed, food and drinks can be stored in a mini-refrigerator and heated in a microwave that we have at the office.

If you use stim/fidget tools or other sensory items, please free feel to bring them with you to use throughout the evaluation day. I also have some fidget/sensory toys that can be used if needed/desired.

How long will the evaluation appointment take?

Caregiver interviews, which are completed as part of the evaluation process for children and adolescents, typically take an hour and a half to two hours to complete. At this time, caregiver interviews are completed either in-person, telephonically, or virtually per caregivers’ preference. Because I am only licensed in Indiana, individuals must also be physically located in Indiana at the time of telephonic or virtual calls.

For youth ages 4 to 12, the in-person evaluation process typically takes three to four hours to complete. For teenagers, the evaluation process can last four to five hours, and adults should expect to be in the office for at least five hours. That said, because individuals work at different paces and desire a varying number of breaks throughout the evaluation day, appointments may be completed sooner or last longer than the above-mentioned timeframes.

I ask that a caregiver remains in the building throughout their child’s appointment in case of illness or other concerns and/or your assistance is needed during portions of the evaluation day.

Information regarding guest Wifi is posted in the waiting room.
